UserLand and Digital Creations Form Strategic Alliance;
Frontier and Zope to Interoperate Using XML-RPC Standard
FREDERICKSBURG, Va., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- UserLand Software,
Burlingame, CA, and Digital Creations, a Virginia-based company
providing consulting services for Web business applications,
today announced a partnership between their flagship content
management systems to support the XML-RPC standard.
Frontier, developed by UserLand, and Zope, developed by
Digital Creations, will interoperate using the XML-RPC protocol
for distributed processing using the Web. Additionally, UserLand
has selected Zope as its deployment server for Unix environments.
Frontier, first released in 1992, is the market-leading
content management solution for Windows and Macintosh systems.
Zope is an Open Source application server for Windows and Unix.
``XML-RPC will simplify the development of distributed systems
that leverage the advantages of three operating systems-Mac OS,
Windows NT and Linux,'' said Dave Winer, president of UserLand
Software and long-time industry leader. ``Upon completion, this
will be a historical marker in the growth of content management
technology.''
``The XML-RPC standard championed by UserLand is quickly
gaining momentum,'' said Paul Everitt, CEO of Digital Creations.
``With the connection between Frontier, Zope and the many
supporting systems, the potential power of the Internet platform
is truly unleashed.''
XML-RPC allows one program to operate with another program,
similar to high-end solutions such as CORBA or COM. Unlike these
solutions, though, the simpler XML-RPC runs atop the standard Web
protocols and allows for easy implementation.
Additionally, UserLand announced a partnership with Digital
Creations to leverage Zope for deploying Frontier content to Unix
servers.
``Frontier is an incredibly rich environment compared to low-level
server solutions such as Vignette, ColdFusion and ASP,'' said
Winer. ``Zope is the leading content management system on Unix-and
the closest to the rich runtime environment of Frontier in today's
market.''
``Frontier has effectively defined the market for productive
client environments,'' said Everitt. ``The partnership between
the Zope community and the Frontier community will combine the
strengths of these two powerful solutions and grow the market
significantly.''
